Job Description

Synopsis

The Planning Engineer is a key member of the Short-Term Planning & Control team at Etihad Airways, reporting to the Lead Planning Engineer. This role is focused on ensuring the efficient and cost-effective execution of maintenance planning for the fleet, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and airworthiness.

 

Accountabilities

Maintenance Planning & Coordination:

  • Lead and execute maintenance activities to ensure fleet airworthiness and operational reliability.
  • Review maintenance forecasts in alignment with operational profiles, optimizing task scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Ops, PPC, Tech Ops, Strategic Slot Planning) to minimize operational disruption.
  • Ensure compliance with the Aircraft Maintenance Program (AMP) and manage any required time extensions.
  • Execute tasks related to Engineering Work Instructions and continued airworthiness management.

Work Package & Deferred Defects Management:

  • Review open work packages, ensuring maintenance requirements are completed within timelines and the work package closure process is adhered to.
  • Plan and manage the rectification of Deferred Defects (MELs, Ops/Guest Defects, Cabin, IFE), ensuring timely execution aligned with compliance and safety KPIs.
  • Oversee the Deferred Defect status, ensuring effective planning and execution in line with operational priorities.

Project Planning & Process Improvement:

  • Lead maintenance project planning, including task estimation and work package preparation.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders (Line/Hangar/Maintenance Facilities) to ensure timely execution of maintenance events.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to process improvements within Short-Term Planning & Control, optimizing efficiency in maintenance planning.
  • Ensure strict adherence to procedures, processes, and aviation regulations, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Planning Engineer to support team objectives.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or related field) with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a Diploma/Aircraft License with 3-5 years of experience in aviation maintenance planning.
  • Familiarity with maintenance forecasting tools and software; experience with AMOS is a plus. Strong knowledge of aviation regulations, particularly in maintenance planning. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
